90 international students arrested studying in fake U.S university

U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests around 90 foreign students at fake university created by Department of Homeland Security in Michigan. After 9/11, the U.S. enforced stricter control on immigration. This process of enforcement made it very clear and led to the birth of Homeland Security and ICE, and for that you need to know what ICE is exactly?

ICE take over its targeted mission by the observation of more than 400 federal statutes, and focus on clever immigration enforcement, stopping terrorism and fighting the illegal movement of people and trade. Approximately around 90 extra foreign students were arrested at a fake university in Detroit, created by the Department of Homeland Security in recent months.

A total of about 250 students have now been arrested since January on immigration encroachment by U.S. ICE as part of a closed sting operation by federal agents who tempted foreign-born students, mostly from India, to attend the school that marketed itself as giving undergraduate programs in various technology , management and computer studies, said by ICE officials.

Many of those arrested have been deported, while others are contesting their removals. One has been allowed to stay after being granted lawful permanent resident status by an immigration judge. The students had arrived legally in the U.S. on various student visas, allowing them to stay and study there but when the University of Farmington was later exposed to be created by federal agents, they lost their status of immigrant. The University was covered and taken over with undercover agents posing as university officials.

‘A senseless waste of taxpayer money’: Under Trump policies, immigrants are waiting years for court hearings now. And, out of the approximately 250 students arrested on administrative charges, “nearly 80% were granted self – voluntary departure and departed the United States,” the Detroit office of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations. Of the remaining 20%, about half have received a final order of removal; some were ordered removed by an immigration judge, and others “were removed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection,” HSI Detroit said.

The remaining of them have either filed for some kind of extension or are contesting their removals with Executive Office for Immigration Review, said HSI Detroit. ICE in a previous statement also said that around 161 students have been arrested, that totals to a number around 250. Meanwhile, seven of the eight recruiters who were criminally charged with trying to recruit students have pleaded guilty and been sentenced in Detroit. The remaining defendant will be sentenced sooner.

Attorneys for the students arrested said that they were unfairly trapped by the U.S. government as the DHS had said on its website that the university was legitimate and clean. An accreditation agency that was working with the U.S. on its closed operation also cleared the university as clean and legitimate.

Moreover, Emails also show how fake university in metro Detroit lured students and how Fake University’s believed to have collected millions of dollars from immigrants.

At around 600 students enrolled at the university, which was created a few years ago by federal law enforcement officials with ICE. Records filed with the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs show that the University of Farmington was incorporated in January 2016. The government of U.S.A trapped the vulnerable students and people who just wanted to maintain their legal immigration status, Rahul Reddy, a Texas attorney who represented or advised some of the students arrested, told the press.

After this entire buzz it was very evident that the fake university scam is believed to have collected millions of dollars from the vulnerable students. An email from the university’s president, Ali Milani, told students that graduate programs’ tuition is $2,500 per quarter and that the average cost is $1,000 per month. “They made a lot of money,” Reddy said of the U.S. government.

“So, to protect young mind from the vicious circle of the fraudster, Fee Guards comes into existence. No one has filed a lawsuit or claim against the U.S. government for taking the huge bucks for allegedly entrapping the students.  Attorneys for ICE later said in a statement that the coming students should have known it was not a legitimate university because it did not have classes in a physical location.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has taken offline the website of the University of Farmington, which it had created for a sting operation. The website was taken down on Jan. 31, 2019 after a federal indictment was unsealed on Jan. 30. The website for the fake university now contains a logo for the investigative unit of ICE and reads: “The University of Farmington has been closed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
